Explaining Switzerland (KST International)
Switzerland is a country in the heart of Europe, but by no means a part of the continent, politically speaking. There are other things that set this tiny speck on the face of the earth apart from other countries. It is a cultural crossroads in Europe, in between cultures, with four national languages spoken, with local dialects of German that are hard to learn, with a spirit and a political culture and democratic tradition all of its own. A crossroads, an international meeting place : 25% of the country’s population are foreigners, many more have roots in other countries. We have invited two of these foreigners, who have become Swiss citizens in the last years, to discuss their chosen home. Switzerland beyond chocolate and cheese, beyond neutrality and banks. Eric Facon’s guests are Marcy Goldberg, the film scholar and cultural critic from Canada, and Diccon Bewes from Britain, author of books about Switzerland such as «Swiss Watching».
