USA from afar (KST international)
The last century was dominated by the United States of America, both in a political and a cultural sense. This country exported seductive images of itself as the place, where dreams will come true, where freedom is guaranteed. These ideas were sent out to the world in the artifacts of popular culture of the era, in countless books, movies and the music. Elvis Presley’s hip shake, the defiance in James Dean’s eyes, Marilyn Monroe’s dress, the Coke bottle and the hamburger, the unbelievably exotic names of places like Poughkeepsie or Tallahassee, of cars such as the Ford Mustang, the Corvette StingRay, the Chevrolet Coupe deVille. All of this spelled coolness. But what about the United States of America of today, a few days before the all important vote on the presidency ? Eric Facon’s guests are contemporary arts performer and activist Brandy Butler and Andrew Shields from the University of Basel - two American citizens who live in Switzerland.
